Daru Youth come together, learn and fight HIV/AIDS
3 DEC. 2012. Fifty youth attended the Parish Youth Convention at St. Louis Marie de Montfort Parish on 29-30 November 2012 in Daru, Western Province. During two days, all the youth were given formation talks on the structure of parish youth, introduction to the catechism, four areas of formation, and personal growth and spiritual formation. It was the Parish Team who conducted the activity for the first time.
Parish Priest Fr. Chris Diau was very happy to see the youth come together: “They are full of energy and they can make a difference in the community, if they involve and participate in Church activities”. Angie, one of the youth, revealed that she didn’t know much about her faith, even though she was growing up in Catholic family. But during the Youth convention, she came to understand that Jesus is there in her life.
The Parish Youth Coordinator noted that “this kind of activities make us think about what we can really contribute to our community”. He went on to say that “many youth are involved in activities which destroy their lives, but this Youth Convention has given them an opportunity to become responsible and participate in the life, mission and work of the Catholic community in Daru”.
After the Convention, all the youth took part in WORLD AIDS DAY on 1st December by marching together with women, men and children on the main road of Daru town.
