PNG young pilgrims ask to pray with Pope in Rome
Fifteen students from Divine Word University (DWU) in Madang travelling on a pilgrimage to Rome on 14-21 June for the Year of Faith have asked to pray with Pope Francis at his usual morning Mass at Casa Santa Marta while in Rome.
“During the preparation meetings - DWU Chaplain Fr. Giorgio Licini PIME says - the students noted: We come from very far and will never go back to Rome again! Can we pray with Pope Francis? I explained them how difficult it may be and why – continues Fr. Giorgio -; and that through the internet I noted that those admitted to the Pope’s morning Mass are usually Vatican employees or people residing in Rome”. “We hope the Pope and his staff will consider the distance we come from and this once in a life opportunity we have to be at the heart of the Church”, the students said.
The group of students from Arts, Health and Business faculties will visit Vatican City (Basilica, Musei, etc.), Rome, Assisi, and Nettuno to pray at the tomb of St. Maria Goretti, who is patron of the youth in Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands.
